The April holidays are here, and if you’re anything like me I’m sure there’s nothing you love more than binge-watching your favourite movies on a long weekend. That being said, I think we all know that we shouldn’t really spend all of our time off sitting on the couch. Lucky for you, there’s a variety of films headed to the big screen featuring some of Australia’s finest symphony orchestras performing the score live to film! If you’re hoping to see some of your favourite films whilst taking in some beautiful sounds, then perhaps one of these shows is exactly what the Easter bunny ordered!

The Little Mermaid in Concert

PERTH | 26–27 April
“Darling it’s better . . . under the sea!” Get ready to dive right in, because The Little Mermaid in Concert is making its Australian debut in Perth. 2019 marks 30 years since its release, and here’s a little bit of trivia for you: The Little Mermaid was the last of Disney’s feature films to use the traditional hand-painted cel method of animation. The Little Mermaid is truly a classic in every sense of the word. The West Australian Symphony Orchestra will be performing Alan Menken’s Academy Award-winning score as the film plays on the Crown Theatre’s big screen! The Little Mermaid in Concert is a must-sea event these holidays!

Ghostbusters: Film with Live Orchestra

MELBOURNE | 26–27 April
Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters” Despite its 1984 release date, Ghostbusters has maintained its status as a cult classic. The chart-topping theme song is instantly recognisable among movie buffs and pop culture lovers alike, and will be performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (along with Elmer Bernstein’s Grammy-nominated score) as the hilarious film plays on the big screen. Ranking highly on dozens of lists of ‘Best Comedy Films’, Ghostbusters is likely to be loved decades down the track. Save 45% on tickets to Ghostbusters: Film with Live Orchestra with Lasttix!

Jurassic Park — In Concert

BRISBANE | 27 April
“Welcome to…Jurassic Park!” I think every child goes through a dinosaur phase at some point, with some of us never really growing out of it. Lucky for us, it seems that Steven Spielberg is among those who maintained a healthy fascination with dinosaurs, giving us the cinematic classic Jurassic Park! After being the highest-grossing film of 1993, Jurassic Park has withstood the test of time. John William’s iconic soundtrack will be brought to life by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, as the film is projected in HD onto the big screen. Don’t let this chance go extinct, grab your tickets from just $49!

And if April is looking a little busy…

Casino Royale in Concert

MELBOURNE | 23–24 May
The name’s Bond, James Bond.” The 2006 Bond film will be playing on the big screen, accompanied by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performing David Arnold’s thrilling score. Casino Royale features an impressive cast of co-stars, including Judi Dench as “M”, and marks Daniel Craig’s first appearance as the MI6 agent. His reinvention of the beloved character was incredibly well-received, eventually making Craig the first actor to ever receive a BAFTA nomination for a performance as James Bond. And as if all of that isn’t enough to convince you, Casino Royale was the highest grossing Bond film (until Skyfall overtook it). I think it’s safe to say that Craig’s portrayal of Bond is pretty impressive! This is the perfect way to reignite your James Bond love affair before Craig’s fifth and final performance as James Bond hits cinemas next year. Whether you like it shaken or stirred, you’re sure to love Casino Royale in Concert!
